CHAPTER 3

A sharp knock on the hotel room door had Raiden cursing as stomped over from the balcony where he’d set up his laptop. He gone through the images earlier and had uploaded a handful to his Facebook page and couple of places he kept an online portfolio after he’d applied his logo to them.

Raiden ripped open the door, barely containing a “What?”

“Oh, there is a god. Gods. Goddess. Several. Damn Aphrodite painted you beautiful.”

Raiden opened his mouth, closed it, and opened it again. “Aphrodite is a Greek Goddess. We’re in Italy.”

“Greek. Roman. Doesn’t matter, you’re hotter than I remember.” Shane whistled.

Raiden looked down and back up. He’d thrown on jeans but no shirt after his shower. Turning, he slammed the door closed and stomped back into the room. A dull thud caught his attention. Shane had caught the door and walked in, closing the door behind him. “How the hell did you know where I was? Regardless of what some book said, stalking is creepy not sexy.”

“Ah, the same way I knew you were going on the night hike. One of my friends charmed the information out of your lady friend. Annika spilled the rest. Only after I admitted I was a complete hypocrite and coward and told her the entire story.”

That explained the one word text his sister had sent him.

Sorry.

He was going to disown everyone.

“Are those the shots from last night?” Shane asked looking over at the computer. “You haven’t posted those yet.”

“Seriously, stalking is not a sexy trait,” Raiden stated crossing his arms over his chest.

“Like I said, I follow your career. Like probably half of the followers on your photo-sites, I get notified when anyone I’m following posts new pictures. And for the record, I don’t just follow you. I follow probably two dozen or more photographers and artists,” Shane answered.

“Are you drunk or high?”

“Random drug testing remember? No, I’m not high. And I don’t drink.”

The anymore was unstated, but Raiden heard it all the same. Shane had drank as long as Raiden had known him. Getting alcohol hadn’t been a problem for the younger man, regardless of his age. He hadn’t been a heavy drinker while they had been together. Raiden hadn’t even suspected him of being an alcoholic or dealing with any issues he might have had, war related or otherwise by drinking. What had transpired in their time apart, Raiden wasn’t sure and was sure that he didn’t want to know. He had a good idea of what could put a haunted look like he’d seen Shane’s eyes.

“Look, I’m not dying, I haven’t been diagnosed with PTSD or anything else. I simply want to get to know you again. To see if we have a chance.”

Raiden raised an eyebrow. Not being diagnosed with PTSD wasn’t the same as not having it. It was a distinction he’d heard more than once. “Where are your friends?”

“Heading to see some catacombs, I think. They might be heading down to the ocean. Sea. Either way, I told them I’d meet them for lunch.
